Youth Community Coalition (YC2)   Mission:  Empowering Youth to Make Healthy Choices, work toward decreasing substance abuse and promoting healthy behaviors among Columbia’ youth to foster their development into productive citizens.  Over 70 organizations and individuals are represented on the Coalition’s membership roster, which also includes 24 youths. YC2 utilizes the following methodology to accomplish the group’s set goals and objectives.
  • Mobilization of the community
  • Connecting and analyzing local indicator data
  • Prioritizing the community’s key issues
  • Educating community members and key leaders and involving them in solutions
  • Fostering partnerships between all sectors of the community to involve everyone on the solution
  • Advocating for the use of prevention science and measurable outcomes in programming

 Meetings are generally held on the third Thursday of each month at 3:30 p.m. in the Columbia Housing Authority (CHA) Administration Building, which is located at 201 Switzler Street.  Members take the opportunity to discuss and develop solutions for community issues, request assistance to address an issue, share information, and learn about progress toward the goals and objectives of the group. YC2 receive funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (Drug Free Community Support Program) and the Missouri Department of Mental Health.
