CHA Awarded Funding to Renovate 90 Public Housing Units

Columbia, Missouri, December 2, 2016 – The Missouri Housing Development Commission announced the allocation of Low-Income Housing Tax Credits to the Columbia Housing Authority for the renovation of 90 public housing units.

The funding is for two renovation projects:  The Bryant Walkway Apartments (54 units) and the Bryant Walkway Apartments II (36 units).  This allocation of Low-Income Housing Tax Credits will allow the Columbia Housing Authority to substantially renovate these public housing units thus preserving this important affordable housing resource for our community.

These apartments were constructed in 1963 and have been constantly occupied since that date.

The Bryant Walkway Apartments (54 units) will receive a gut-rehab which will involve removing all interior walls, some exterior walls and replacing the plumbing and electrical systems, removing the concrete slabs and installing new flooring.  The apartments will be reconfigured for better space utilization and insulated for energy efficiency.  New cabinets and energy-efficient appliances will be installed.  Porches, balconies, and storage space will be added on to the buildings to create a more livable space for our residents.

The Bryant Walkway Apartments II (36 units) will receive similar renovations but it is not necessary to remove the slap flooring and interior walls due to the size and configuration of the apartments.
