CHA is going smoke-free inside its buildings! Studies have shown that children living in multifamily housing have 45% higher levels of nicotine exposure than children living in detached housing - even if no one in their families smoke. Anyone inhaling second hand smoke runs a 20-30% higher risk of heart attack or stroke than persons who are not exposed to second hand smoke. Under the proposed policy, smoking would not be prohibited on CHA grounds; smokers are just asked to step outside to smoke. No one has to quit smoking, but CHA is offering assistance to residents who want to take this as an opportunity to stop.

CHA is accepting public comment for the next 60 days. Please see the links under "The Latest from CHA".
