The Housing Choice Voucher Program gives more housing choices….throughout the community.
The waiting list for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program is CLOSED at this time due to the large number of applicants on the current waiting list and therefore not accepting new applications. During the week of October 8 -12, 2018 , The Columbia Housing Authority received 900 applications from families seeking housing assistance through the HCV program. It will be a least two (2) years before the waiting list is opened again. Applicants were assigned to the waiting list by using a lottery system.
If you are interested in checking your status on the waiting list, the Head of Household must come into the front desk at the main office of the Columbia Housing Authority, 201 Switzler Street, with a valid photo ID.
Not all jobs and schools are located in the heart of Columbia. CHA’s Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) rental assistance program lets families live close to work and gives them greater flexibility in choosing their child’s school. Families can look throughout Columbia and Boone County to find the neighborhood that best fits their needs. Under this program, if jobs move or situations change, rental assistance moves with the family. Eligible families may rent from any qualified private landlord who accepts rental assistance vouchers. Participants negotiate their own lease, and CHA pays a portion of their monthly rent, based on their income and the size of the household.
