The Columbia Housing Authority

The mission of the Columbia Housing Authority is to provide safe, healthy, and affordable housing opportunities to low-income individuals and families.  In carrying out this mission, the Columbia Housing Authority seeks partnerships and collaborative efforts with local organizations and other governmental agencies that provide services to improve the quality of life for our residents.
With nearly 1,900 units of assisted housing, the Columbia Housing Authority (CHA) represents approximately 9% of Columbia’s rental market.
CHA’s two major housing assistance programs are subsidized by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Board of Commissioners

The Columbia Housing Authority is governed by a five-member Board of Commissioners appointed by the Mayor of the City of Columbia.
The Board of Commissioners holds monthly public meetings and is responsible for reviewing and approving the CHA Annual Plan, Five Year Plan, Operational and Capital Budgets, new programs, and operational policies which guide the organization.  The Board of Commissioners hires and evaluates the Chief Executive Officer who is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations.
